Beyond the label

Deliciously dark and lavishly barrel aged in fine French oak, this Reserva is from a very special boutique winery in the heart of Rioja—where you have insider access.

Altos de la Guardia was built from the ground up by Haut-Brion-trained Jean-Marc Sauboua, a labor of love he could really stretch his creative legs. After just a few years of being an established bodega, Altos de la Guardia has won a staggering number of local and international awards for its wines. And in 2017, they were named Spain’s Best Producer at the International Wine & Spirit Competition.

This pure Tempranillo, harvested from the estate’s oldest (60+ years) vineyards in the premium Alavesa district, gives you a taste of Jean-Marc’s trademark style: powerful, elegant and with an undeniable finesse (clearly you learn a thing or three when you hone your craft at a world-renowned château).

Previous releases of Altos de la Guardia Reserva have scored dozens of high marks with critics, and this 2017’s awards tally is already stacking up. It boasts 90-94 points from the International Wine & Spirits Awards, 93 points from the Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition, 92 points from critic James Suckling and FOUR gold medals—so far, that is...

There’s no doubt this is a very special bottle for lovers of fine Spanish reds—aged to perfection and just waiting to be opened and served with roast lamb or pork. (Tip: we suggest decanting the wine 30 minutes or so before you plan to enjoy. This will open up those beautiful aromas and flavors and really enhance your whole experience.)
