Beyond the label

Amandla, meaning “power within us” in the local Zulu dialect, is a one-of-a-kind venture run entirely by Black women in South Africa. Their Amandla “Our Power” Shiraz-Zinfandel is a juicy drama of red fruit flavors and spice that celebrates the vibrancy of Black culture.

Praisy Dlamini is the brilliant winemaker behind the bottle and the winery. With 15 vintages under her belt—including time at the historic Zonnebloem estate—she was the first woman in the Cape Winemakers Guild and her Amandla wines have been making waves since their debut in 2023. (The Drinks Business was just one if the many organizations to take notice, giving the new venture the Best Launch of the Year award at the time.) Now, you have access to their top red wine...

Sourced from vineyards throughout the Western Cape, it offers layers of plum, blackberry, strawberry and spice that make it a perfect partner for pizza, empanadas and more flavorful dishes. The eye-catching label is sure to make a statement, too. Its dazzling portrait represents the Black women behind Amandla, who are committed to evolving while staying true to their roots.

Fun fact: This red's white wine counterpart, Amandla Sauvignon Blanc, won “Wine of Show” at our May 2024 tasting event at City Winery in NYC. It's the top honor out of all 60+ wines featured, as voted by the hundreds of customers in attendance. Cheers to that!
