Flavor Profile
How’s this for a cool new find? A racy white Bordeaux—already relatively uncommon, as compared to the region’s ever-present reds!—made to a unique recipe of half Sauvignon Blanc and half (rare) Sauvignon Gris.
Hailing from the leading La Clarière estate in the heart of up-and-coming Saint-Emilion neighbor, Castillon, it’s a delicious product of the excellent 2020 harvest, which is being lauded by winemakers and critics alike for its stellar quality. Speaking of lauded...this elegant white Bordeaux sports 92 points from the Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition, 91 points from Decanter, a ‘Grand Gold’ medal from Asia Wine Trophy plus four gold medals (so far!).
Bursting with sunny lemon character, it’s balanced by zippy, refreshing acidity and a rounded, spicy nuance. Perfect with seafood, soft cheeses, salads and more. Here’s the Decanter judges’ take: “The vineyards are planted on the limestone ridge between Castillon and St-Emilion, which give the wine plenty of elegance and a mineral note, balancing the ripe, exotic palate.”
