Flavor Profile

Beyond the label

In mining terms, stumbling upon a pocket of gold is, of course, a valuable discovery. It’s also the inspiration behind the name of this rich Cabernet Sauvignon from California’s red-hot Lodi region.

Gold Pocket is a special Cab project from the Kautz family, a top winemaking name famed for their quality-driven approach. They gave a taste to our expert, Clare, on one of her previous trips to Lodi. She was so impressed, she convinced them to give her an exclusive deal on the whole lot. As the ink was drying on the agreement, they joked about it being a real “gold pocket” of a wine…and the name stuck.

Thanks to the warm 2020 vintage, the Cabernet grapes ripened beautifully, and Gold Pocket puts that on full display here. Look forward to concentrated blackberry and cassis flavors, with hints of fresh herbs and licorice. A core of juicy intensity will have you coming back for a second glass. Serve your bottle with steaks, burgers and more.

If you’re ever in town, the Kautzes let guests pan for gold at their estate. Or, you can check out their impressive 44lb gold nugget (among the five largest still in existence). But we think the real treasure is held inside this exclusive bottle. Grab your share today.
