HJ Fabre Gran Reserva Malbec 2020
Hervé Fabre makes some of our favorite Malbec—and his HJ Fabre Gran Reserva Malbec is a luxurious step up. A previous vintage was praised by Master of Wine Tim Atkin with this impressive tasting note:
“Focused, refreshing, and very easy to drink, with subtle tannins, sweet raspberry and strawberry fruit, and balancing acidity.”
Hervé takes a “no-expense-spared” approach with his wines, particularly with his Gran Reserva. The grapes were hand-harvested from 80-year-old vines and placed in small baskets to avoid damaging the fruit. Then they were hand sorted—bunch by bunch and grape by grape.
The wine spent 12 months aging in small oak barrels. This is the kind of quality commitment that earned Hervé the title of Winemaking Legend from critic (and Master of Wine) Tim Atkin, as well as Red Winemaker of the Year at the 2018 International Wine Challenge.
Drinking beautifully now, this special-occasion Malbec will also cellar well for several years. Serve with hearty roasts or prime aged filets–and don’t delay your order.
