Beyond the label

Alberto Ramirez is a key player in the drive towards sustainable viticulture in Rioja, Spain's premier wine region. His vineyards are 100% organic and his solar-powered winery operates completely off the grid…he’s looking to the future.

For Pica Zabal Blanco, he and renowned expert Juan-Antonio Leza selected the best fruit of three grape varieties—two of which are so rare that this might be the only wine to showcase them in all their glory. They harvested the best white Tempranillo (sibling to Rioja’s flagship red Tempranillo), Sauvignon Blanc and the nearly extinct Maturana Blanca. This grape is grown only in Rioja and is currently being ‘rescued’ by conscientious growers like Alberto.

It was harvested at night, which means minimal energy was used to chill the grapes at the cellar. Cool fermentation and a gentle hand ensures capture of the brisk lemon fruit of this exciting white Rioja. You're in for crisp and citrusy flavors plus rosemary and sage notes. It makes a great apertivo or a lovely partner for seafood. Enjoy it with dishes like fresh shrimp to grilled salmon.

Fun fact: Each bottle is individually numbered and only a limited amount were made. Order your share today and see which numbers you get!
