Meet Argentina's Masters of Malbec

From pipe dreamers to pioneers – how the Zuccardi family became “one of the top names in Argentine wine” according to The Wine Advocate.

NPR About Stories
José Zuccardi

In 1950, engineering graduate Alberto Zuccardi arrived in Mendoza, the epicenter of Argentine wine. His plan was to introduce to the region his new cement-pipe irrigation method and – to demonstrate how well it worked – he planted a vineyard. As son (and current president) José will tell you, “My father soon began to realize that his vocation was viticulture.”

Fast forward seven decades and the Familia Zuccardi is now a reference point in Argentine wine. Last year, José Zuccardi was given the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the International Wine Challenge. And it's clear that José's son Sebastian inherited the pioneering zeal of his father and grandfather. Winner of numerous Argentine Winemaker of the Year trophies. Sebastian is literally taking Malbec to greater heights with his new vineyard projects in the upper reaches of the Uco Valley.

Imagine our delight when the family agreed to produce All Grapes Considered Malbec.
