Flavor Profile

The Wine

Calling all classic film fans! Al Hirschfeld’s first theatrical drawing was published in 1926, and he continued to define Hollywood for nine decades in images and posters that are as iconic as the films they depict. Crafted in celebration of this great chronicler of 20th-century film culture, the Al Hirschfeld ‘Self Portrait’ release is a fittingly bold, smooth Petite Sirah. Raise a glass to The Line King and enjoy waves of blackberry and blueberry flavor, framed by hints of black pepper and cocoa.

Don’t let the name fool you… Petite Sirah is anything but petite. Known for its glass-staining, wild berry and molasses-loaded wines, California specialty Petite Sirah is “the grape that takes no prisoners,” says Tim Atkin, Master of Wine. Relatively rare (with only 10,000 acres planted in the entire world) this French grape has found a welcome home in California’s Lodi region—the origin of this sumptuous red.

Fans of lush, full-bodied reds will enjoy sipping this all on its own, but it also pairs well with food. Serve this alongside gourmet burgers, grilled steaks or other savory, beef-based meals. Hearty winter stews or your favorite barbecue dishes will be tasty, too.

Classic Movie Pairing: Camelot (1967)
An illustrator with a career that spanned over 70 years, Al Hirschfeld was Hollywood royalty. Known for his unique style of celebrity portrait, his art documented icons of both stage and screen. This big-budget retelling of the King Arthur legend covers both arts, and was one of the last high profile movie musicals of its era. Starring Richard Harris as Arthur, alongside Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero, it won Oscars for its set design, costumes and music and is a cinematic spectacle fit for the king of Hollywood illustrators.
