Flavor Profile
Deliciously dark and lavishly barrel aged in fine French oak, Altos de la Guardia Reserva hails from a very special boutique winery in the heart of Rioja—where you have insider access.
Altos de la Guardia was built from the ground up by Haut-Brion-trained Jean-Marc Sauboua, a labor of love where he could really stretch his creative legs. After just a few years of being an established bodega, Altos de la Guardia has won a staggering number of local and international awards for its wines—including the Spain’s Best Producer title at the International Wine & Spirit Competition.
This pure Tempranillo, harvested from the estate’s oldest (60+ years) vineyards in the premium Alavesa district, gives you a taste of Jean-Marc’s trademark style: powerful, elegant and with an undeniable finesse (clearly you learn a thing or three when you hone your craft at a world-renowned château).
Previous releases of Altos de la Guardia Reserva have scored dozens of high marks with critics, and this 2018 vintage’s awards tally is already stacking up. It boasts multiple 90+ point scores, gold medals and a Best Value award—so far, that is...
There’s no doubt this is a very special bottle for lovers of fine Spanish reds—aged to perfection and just waiting to be opened and served with roast lamb or pork. (Tip: we suggest decanting the wine 30 minutes or so before you plan to enjoy. This will open up those beautiful aromas and flavors and really enhance your whole experience.)
