Beyond the label

We’ve worked with father-son winemaking team Julián and Javier Murúa (below) for decades. Their flagship Rioja, Barón de Barbón, has long been a favorite of our customers and with critics—its many triumphs include an International Wine Challenge Wine of the Year award. As thanks for your years of support, they’ve crafted a special anniversary release exclusively for our customers.

Julián and Javier spared no expense in making Barón de Barbón Anniversario for you. They hand harvested only the finest Tempranillo grapes from prime-sited vineyards located around their estate, Bodegas Muriel. These grapes grow on old vines, some planted as far back as 1969, which yield small but intensely flavored bunches.

In the cellar, the Murúas aged the wine for eight months in American oak casks, which imparted notes of spice, vanilla and mocha to Tempranillo’s primary flavors of bramble berry, summer fruit and clove. The result is truly special—a wine even richer, smoother and more complex than the original Barón de Barbón.

Our many Spanish wine fans will be racing to get this limited-edition Rioja in their glasses. Hurry to be among the first to taste it.
