Back in 1933, Cantina Valpolicella Negrar was the first winery to bottle and label a wine called ‘Amarone.’ Today, Amarone is Italy’s richest red, as you’ll taste with this highly rated exclusive, which boasts lush dark fruit and sweet spice notes.

Amarone della Valpolicella is “one of the most unique and noble red wines in the world,” writes The Wine Advocate. As adoring fans already know, Amarone is also Italy’s richest red. The secret behind its full-bodied, complex flavors is the art of air-drying grapes (the Italians call it appassimento). 

<a target="_blank" href="https://www.cantinanegrar.com/it" style="text-decoration:none; font-weight:normal;">Cantina Valpolicella Negrar</a> lies in the heart of northern Italy’s Veneto region. Back in 1933, they were the first winery to bottle and label a wine called ‘Amarone.’ And today, they have an excellent reputation for producing world-class wines. In fact, they were awarded the title of Best Italian Cooperative Winery three times (in 2016, 2017 and 2019) by Weinwirtschaft, the leading wine trade magazine in Germany. 

Head winemaker Daniele Accordini's team hand-harvested Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella grapes (a classic Amarone blend) from pristine vineyards in the Marano Valley. Then, they dried the grapes for 90 days under perfect conditions, concentrating the luscious fruit flavors. The wine rested for 24 months in barrel and matured for six months in bottle before release. Daniele chose to name the wine after Bartolomeo Lorenzi, an 18th century abbott and poet whose “Della Coltivazione de' Monti” described the work of local farmers over the four seasons and helped popularize Valpolicella’s wines.
