Flavor Profile
Never taking himself too seriously, actor, director and producer Burt Reynolds was capable of greatness and will be equally remembered for his star turn in 1972’s Deliverance as he will be for the successful Smokey and the Bandit franchise of the late 1970s and early 80s. Our tribute to this American icon had to be the maverick of the wine world: Zinfandel.
Originally from Croatia and a huge star in Italy, Zinfandel has crossed borders under many aliases (you might know it as Primitivo). But it really thrives in sunny California’s premium Lodi region, aka the Zinfandel Capital of the World. Not only is Lodi “one of the top wine regions in the country” (vinepair.com), it’s home to California’s oldest Zinfandel vines. These gnarled, low-yielding heirlooms produce richly concentrated grapes, thanks in part to Lodi’s brilliant sunshine and long, warm growing season.
What we’re dealing with here is a complete...ly delicious Zinfandel. There’s ripe red and black fruit aromas, supported by fresh leaf notes. The palate offers juicy blackberry and cherry flavors, plus vibrant acidity and a long, smooth finish. It’s a great partner for barbecued meats, hearty pastas and more.
Unlike Bandit, you won’t have to smuggle this bottle across state lines to enjoy it. Just hit ‘Add to Cart’ now.
Classic Movie Pairing: Hooper (1978)
Burt Reynolds had many memorable roles over his career. A fan favorite, this comedy was made during the height of his ’70s superstardom. This high-energy flick has Reynolds starring as Sonny Hooper, an aging stuntman who has to contend with his inevitable exit from the industry. Although full of action scenes, it also has thoughtful satire poking fun at the Hollywood system. Directed by legendary stuntman Hal Needham and co-starring Sally Field as Hooper’s girlfriend, it also features Jan-Michael Vincent, Brian Keith and Robert Klein.
