Flavor Profile
Viognier, Roussanne, Chenin Blanc and Grenache Blanc are all big stars in France’s Rhône Valley, but they also thrive in South Africa, where Charles Back has been experimenting with them for years. And Charles isn’t just any old winemaker. Master of Wine Tim Atkin describes him as “one of the great entrepreneurs, innovators, of the wine world”—and we think you’ll love this taste of his talent.
This Rhône-style beauty was crafted with grapes sourced mostly from Charles’s award-winning Fairview farm on the gorgeous slopes of Paarl Mountain, where heat-loving grapes like Grenache (white and red) thrive in the region’s brilliant sunshine.
Pour this, and a medley of apricot, pear, honey and white blossom aromas will greet your nose. The palate offers up ripe citrus flavors, with zesty acidity and a pear-tinged finish. All of the above make this white a versatile, food-friendly choice that’s sure to get a thumbs-up from dinner party guests.
Take a tip from Charles and serve it with seafood (he recommends cream-based dishes). It’s also delightful with gourmet mac ’n cheese or a plate of creamy cheeses and fresh-baked crostini. However you plan to enjoy it, be sure to secure your share while our limited cases last.
