Beyond the label

If you’re like most Italian wine fans, you’re probably well-versed in the classic reds of Tuscany, Sicily and Piedmont. But have you heard of Molise? Located in central Italy, along the beautiful Adriatic Coast, this region is home to top-notch, great-value wines you won’t often see at your local wine shop.

For this lovely red, winemaker Maria Concetta Raimondo blends local star grape Montepulciano with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Concettina (“little Concetta” in Italian) is smooth and velvety, with vibrant dark-fruit flavors and a delicious savory edge.

With its luscious dark fruit and cherry flavors, subtle savory notes, smooth tannins and a long, velvety finish, this wine has a multitude of excellent food pairings. Start with a plate of cured meats, olives and firm cheeses. For the main dish, we suggest meaty ragù, cheesy lasagnas or your favorite pasta. Savory red meats—from grilled Tuscan steak to roasted lamb chops—will be delicious, too.
