Beyond the Label

With ample cherry cola and cream tones anchored around an earthy mineral core, Fogbound is one of the coolest, most multidimensional Pinot Noirs in our cellar. And it’s all thanks to the unique climatic conditions of its native Sonoma area.

The Pacific Ocean is a big reason California can create some of the freshest, most captivating wines in the country, and nowhere is that more apparent than in its Sonoma Coast American Viticultural Area (AVA), where the grapes for this wine were cultivated.

Here, direct marine influence keeps the region relatively cool all year, extending the growing season and allowing grapes to develop a rich tapestry of fruit flavors. Meanwhile, a layer of dense fog rolls inland off the ocean, blanketing the vineyards. In concert with the chilly ocean air, it acts like a natural humidifier, helping grapes to retain their beautiful, bright acidity, and ultimately, to better convey the area’s terroir.

In the glass, this all means layers and balance, as you’ll experience when you uncork the appropriately named Fogbound: Inviting aromas of cherry, red plum and ground clove spice will welcome you, leading into an immediately approachable cola-like palate nuanced by sweet and mellow vanilla tones, plus iron and graphite accents.
