Beyond the Label

From the southernmost tip of the Rhône Valley, on the Provence border, Le Grand Chapon showcases the passion of winemaker Stéphane Bouillot, and the herbaceous, red- and black-fruited character for which the region’s velvety reds have become famous.

After completing his winemaking studies, Chablis-born Stéphane fell in love with the Southern Rhône and decided to begin working some vineyards his family had long-owned in the area. Honing his skills there for more than a decade now, you could say he’s now somewhat of a local terroir specialist, choosing sites that make the most of regions’ infamous Mistral winds and mix of stony soils.

A deep ruby hue in glass, this Merlot-Syrah-Grenach blend has all the hallmark charm of rich Mediterranean reds. Opening with enchanting floral, garrigue and liquorice aromas, it delivers a palate dominated by lush berry and grenadine tones across a satisfyingly long finish. (Stéphane recommends sipping it alongside charcuterie, grilled meats or a warming casserole.)
