Beyond the label

The biggest trend in bubbly is a pretty cool one…

Wine lovers in France are enjoying their bubblies ON ICE…and top Champagne houses are making cuvées specifically to be served on the rocks. As the name suggests, this fine Crémant has the same raison d’être, as well as the delicate bubbles, luscious flavor and attractive price to rival Champagne’s stylish releases.

The eye-catching arrival hails from Maison Cattin in Alsace. Founded in 1720, the family estate is run by husband-and-wife duo Jacques and Anais Cattin. They might be among the region’s most established (with high scores from top critics), but they keep things fresh. This is serious Crémant (100% Pinot Auxerrois, aged 15 months) that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The delicately sweet, ripe peach and citrusy-floral notes are delicious chilled with ice or in a cocktail—and equally good on its own (see below).

Far from traditional, the beautiful bottle art comes from graffiti artist Missy (aka Lisa Discale) to showcase the intricate beauty of Alsace and its high-flying friends.

This unique bubbly is slated to be a huge hit. Be the first to try it!

Serving tip: Place four ice cubes in a white wine glass. (Don’t use crushed ice; it melts too fast. And flutes are too small to let the wine shine!) Then pour five ounces of Ice Cattin over the cubes...and as they meld with the wine, they’ll enhance the aromas and flavors of this ultra-refreshing rarity. Or, feel free to get creative and craft a cocktail.
