Beyond the label

Our Italian wine expert, Leonardo Bassano, has a knack for searching out Italy’s hidden gems. And we can’t wait for you to taste his latest discovery, La Pappardella Croatina.

As the name implies, the Croatina grape originated in Croatia, but it has become a specialty in northern Italy’s Pavia region. Located next door to famous Piedmont, Pavia benefits from a moderate climate and the cooling influence of nearby mountains and rivers—ideal conditions for producing elegant red wines.

In the vineyard, talented winemaker Simmone Cortese and his team hand selected and hand harvested the grapes, ensuring only the best bunches made the cut. The final wine is charming and easygoing, with juicy strawberry, plum and sour cherry flavors. Like all Italian wines, it’s made to be enjoyed alongside a meal. It’s the perfect pairing for pappardelle, its namesake pasta.
