When you think of Pinot Gris, places like Oregon or France’s Alsace region probably come to mind. But this famous white grape variety also thrives in South Africa—and talented winemaker Corlea Fourie makes one of the finest we’ve tasted.
Corlea works her magic at the Bosman family’s historic estate. The Bosmans have been vine growers for eight generations—going all the way back to 1707, when the first ancestor arrived at the Cape of Good Hope. Today, the estate is renowned for crafting quality, ethically produced wines. The family has even given their employees a 26% stake in the business (to date, the largest land reform transaction in the history of South Africa’s wine industry) and won the International Wine Challenge’s Fairtrade Trophy.
Combine that history with Corlea’s expertise and the Wellington region’s natural bounty—hot, sunny days that ripen grapes and cool mountain breezes that lock in freshness—and you’ve got the perfect recipe for world-class Pinot Gris. Look forward to ripe pear, nectarine and white blossom characters, followed by a refreshingly crisp finish. A deliciously versatile white, it’ll delight with white meats, summer salads and more.
Wondering about the quirky name and label? The Bosmans were so pleased with Corlea’s handiwork that they wanted to feature her photo on the bottle. But she humbly refused, asking them to please “Only show my shoes!” The name stuck...but the wine won’t stick around in our cellars for long. Order your share today.
