Beyond the label

Alberto Ramirez is a key player in the drive towards sustainable viticulture in Rioja, Spain's premier wine region. His vineyards are 100% organic and his solar-powered winery operates completely off the grid…he’s looking to the future.

For Pica Zabal, he and renowned expert Juan-Antonio Leza (below) selected the best Tempranillo (Rioja’s flagship red grape variety), Graciano and the nearly extinct Maturana. This grape is grown only in Rioja and is currently being ‘rescued’ by conscientious growers like Alberto.

Because Alberto’s high-altitude vineyards in the Rioja Oriental zone are warm and sunny, this Rioja has a lusher, richer style than most. It’s velvety and smooth, brimming with ripe blackberry, mulberry and raspberry, framed by dark chocolate and spice notes. Delicious on its own and even better with food.

Fun fact: Each bottle is individually numbered and only 1,000 cases were made. Order your share of this special Rioja today.
