Beyond the label

You’re in for a serious treat, especially if you love ultra-rich, bold reds. One sip of his Pillastro Selezione d’Oro and you’ll understand why Angelo’s been named Winemaker of the Year three times at Vinitaly. And that’s just three of the many awards that he, his wine and his cellar have garnered since its founding in 1989. They also won the Cooperative Cellar of the Year title from prestigious Italian guide Gambero Rosso in 2021 and 2023.

Handcrafted with old-vine Primitivo grapes sourced from Angelo’s very best sites in Puglia, then given a splash of deep, dark Negroamaro, the wine was barrel aged for extra smoothness and complexity. (Fun fact: Angelo’s 45-year-old vines are so low yielding, it takes the fruit from an entire plant to make just a single bottle of Selezione d’Oro!)

This rich, sun-baked treat comes into its own with hearty and rustic Italian fare. Serve at your next big family dinner—it’s a guaranteed hit. Word to the wise: just like Angelo’s regular Pillastro, his Selezione d’Oro has a big following—so hurry to guarantee your share.

You’re in for a serious treat, especially if you love ultra-rich, bold reds.
