The celebrated Cantine Due Palme makes many of our best-selling Italian reds, so we’re thrilled to bring you their acclaimed Selvarossa dei Confratelli Riserva. From ancient vines in Puglia, it’s deep, dark, smooth and elegant. Pure class in a glass.

Growing up in rural Puglia (the heel of Italy’s boot), Angelo Maci learned to respect the land from his grandfather. When he became a winemaker, he set out to save the region’s ancient vines and winemaking traditions. He also wanted to help farmers receive fair pay for their work. So, he set up Cantine Due Palme with just 15 local growers.

Today, Cantine Due Palme is a three-time Vinitaly Italian Winery of the Year, as well as the winner of Gambero Rosso’s Cooperative Cellar of the Year in 2021 and 2023. Angelo himself has won three Winemaker of the Year titles plus a Lifetime Achievement Award. His Pillastro wines are also extremely popular with our customers. So, naturally, we’re thrilled to bring you the latest vintage of Cantine Due Palme’s flagship Riserva.

It hails from Puglia’s Salice Salentino zone—one of southern Italy's most respected sub-regions, known for hot days and red, baked-clay soils (both BIG flavor boosters).

The team crafted Selvarossa with local stars Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera—both grown on alberello-trained bush vines (a local tradition Angelo helped save from extinction). After drying a third of the Negroamaro grapes, which concentrates flavors, they aged the wine in fine oak barrels. Then, they let the wine rest in bottle until they were certain it was drinking perfectly.

The results speak for themselves. This 2020 release of Selvarossa dei Confratelli has been rated 90 points by <a target="_blank" href="https://www.jamessuckling.com/tasting-notes/256310/due-palme-salice-salentino-selvarossa-riserva-2020/" style="text-decoration:none; font-weight:normal;">leading critic James Suckling,</a> who called it "Vibrant...full-bodied with spiced, succulent fruit." It also earned 92 points and a double-gold medal from <a target="_blank" href="https://www.gilbertgaillard.com/en" style="text-decoration:none; font-weight:normal;">Gilbert & Gaillard</a> ("silky, ripe and elegant," they raved)—and once again received Gambero Rosso’s coveted Tre Bicchieri award.

Look forward to intense aromas of cherry compote, fig and vanilla spice. On the lush, concentrated palate, red cherry and currant flavors mingle with smooth oak notes. An ideal choice for braised or roasted meats, as well as hearty pasta dishes.
