Beyond the Label

Think Malbec, and your mind may drift straight to Argentina or France. But what if we told you some of the most exciting selections were coming from even farther afield? Exhibit A: The Coach House, an exceedingly delicious, floral- and plum-flavored Malbec crafted in South Africa.

The rich red wine comes to us from a top winery in Robertson—one of the country’s best grape growing areas, renowned for its limestone-rich soils. The estate is run by the De Wet family, who’ve been making wine for five generations. Their philosophy? Great wine is made in the vineyard. And their careful farming and viticultural expertise shines through in the final product.

The grapes for this wine were hand-picked at their peak ripeness to ensure quality, flavor and freshness. In the glass, it’s expressive and approachable, with easy-going plum and blackberry characteristics, violet aromas and distinctive chocolate tones. Deliciously quaffable solo, it’s also super versatile at the table, but is especially good alongside juicy steak or roast beef.
