Flavor Profile
Australia’s esteemed McLaren Vale region “continues to produce intense, complex and seriously age-worthy wines,” says The Wine Companion. And some of the finest come from Chapel Hill.
Inspired by the historic church on the property, The Prophet is the handiwork of talented head winemaker Michael Fragos. Michael crafted it mostly from Grenache (his favorite grape), along with Shiraz (Australia’s star red) and inky-dark Mourvèdre. The final wine that reaches your glass is a rich and powerful experience offering ripe black fruit, toasty spice notes and an effortlessly smooth finish.
Professor Tom Nelson established these vineyards in 1973, around an old stone chapel (dating to 1865). In 2004, Michael Fragos joined as head winemaker. He started out helping his dad make wine (at age six!) and today has won multiple Winemaker of the Year titles as well as the ‘Bushing King’ award, given to the maker of the highest-scoring wine at the McLaren Vale Wine Show.
Down Under, locals would serve The Prophet alongside lamb (grilled or roasted) or a hearty beef meat pie. Feel free to pair it with your favorite red-meat dishes, as well as grilled veggie kebabs, stuffed bell peppers or bean-based stews or casseroles.
The Prophet makes a dazzling addition to any special meal. It’s a big wine (and proud of it) so we recommend serving it in a large glass and letting it ‘breathe’ before sipping.
