Flavor Profile
Argentina may have propelled Malbec to worldwide fame, but this beloved red grape variety also makes delicious, great-value wines in Spain. Taste for yourself with Venta Vieja Malbec.
The Martínez Bujanda family has crafted fine wines for 130 years and are renowned in Rioja for innovation and excellence in winemaking. Looking to expand beyond the Rioja DOCa and experiment with grapes not allowed by the region’s strict rules, they spent several years searching for a property outside of Rioja. They finally settled on the Finca Antigua estate in La Mancha, where inexpensive land and brilliantly hot, sunny days offer the perfect combination for top-value, intensely flavorful Malbec.
In the vineyard, the Martínez Bujanda family use only organic fertilizers sourced from local cattle breeders. After selecting the best bunches of Malbec and getting to work in the winery, the team ferments the grapes with natural yeasts and uses as few interventions as possible—they want to let the wine’s natural character shine.
And shine it does. Look forward to a complex array of flavors—ripe blackberry, blueberry, currant and subtle violet, with hints of classic mint on the finish. Balanced and smooth, this Malbec will delight on its own and is delicious with steaks, roasted pork, grilled vegetables and more.
If you’re a fan of Malbec (or any smooth, fruit-rich red wines), then this Spanish discovery should definitely get a spot in your wine rack. Secure your share today.
