Beyond the Label

When you want a glass of something fresh, chilled and crowd-pleasing, you can’t be northern Italy’s intensely aromatic whites. Alessandro Gallici’s elegant Visionario is a superb example—bursting with floral notes, ripe orchard fruits and an expressive finish.

The wine is inspired by Luigi Felluga’s legendary Terre Alte (which sells for $60+ a bottle)—and is very popular among our customers and the critics. Master of Wine Julia Harding has called it “totally Italian and Venetian. Juicy, fresh and complex,” and here’s its secret...

Alessandro’s “visionary” blend marries local and international grapes from the Friuli and Venezie regions. The Tocai Friulano gives it body; Sauvignon Blanc imparts citrus notes; Chardonnay adds ripe stone-fruit and apple flavors; Malvasia adds aromatic intensity; and late-harvested Gewürztraminer lends delicate perfume and elderflower notes to its juicy, rounded finish.

Alessandro tells us, “I crafted this blend to showcase the beguiling quality of northeastern Italy's white wines. I wanted to make a wine that was particularly aromatic and richly flavored, selecting different parcels of grapes with classic varietal expression, which together exemplify the elegant and refreshing style for which this region is famous.”

Enjoy it as a mouthwatering aperitivo, alongside grilled chicken or with fresh seafood dishes like mussels fra diavolo, grilled calamari or herb-roasted branzino.

Examples like this are rarely found for less than $30 a bottle, and even more rarely outside Italy…but here’s your chance to be one of the lucky few to savour it.
